MUMBAI: Bringing significant relief to residents of Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) colonies, the BMC has finally taken over the task of providing garbage clearance, water connections, road repair and basic amenities to these societies.

These colonies were long deprived of the civic body’s facilities as Mhada has been designated an independent planning authority by the state government.

Addressing a press meet at Mhada’s Bandra headquarters on Tuesday, Vinod Ghosalkar, the head of its Mumbai Repair and Reconstruction Board, said that officials of both agencies had held a meeting and taken this decision.

Mayor Kishori Pednekar, MPs Arvind Sawant and Gajanan Kirtikar, apart from several MLAs and Mhada officials were present.
