This has come to the notice of the state administration that has been conducting intensive checks in the state capital for the past couple of days. Of the 78 private commercial premises that were checked, only 10 had fire NOC, and 68 were running without it.
Gandhinagar is a developing city and new commercial buildings are coming up in addition to the older ones. Interestingly, neither older nor newer buildings have fire NOC in the city area. Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation has formed nine teams with two members each, one from the fire department and the other from town planning to inspect the commercial buildings.
Shockingly, only 10 of the 78 buildings checked had fire safety NOC. Many of them did not even have fire equipment or fire safety systems installed. Several buildings had fire systems installed but did not bother to renew their expired fire NOC.
Talking about the inspections, fire officer Mahesh Modh told Mirror, “Our check is ongoing and we will submit our consolidated report once it is over. However, it has been observed that many buildings have fire systems installed, but have not bothered to renew their NOC. Others have systems installed, but not maintained them at all.”
It shows the negligence of the administration. They are playing with the lives of the citizens.Shailendrasinh Bihola, Leader of Opposition, GMC
The list of buildings without fire safety include commercial buildings in Sector 6, Sector 11, Infocity mall, Sector 21 and commercial units around ST depot. Highly placed sources in the fire department also confirmed that the commercial buildings have also received notices regarding the same, but they have hardly bothered about it. Talking about the violation, opposition leader in the corporation Shailendrasinh Bihola told Mirror, “It shows the negligence of the administration. They are playing with the lives of the citizens.”Gyms in the city have been found out to be the biggest defaulters, according to fire officers. Twelve gyms in the city did not have required fire equipment or even fire NOC. Many of them were found to be running in a shed on top of the building or in the basement with very little ventilation.
