PANCHKULA: The residents of Sector 20 have complained to the municipal commissioner that they have inflated property tax bills on top of poor civic amenities.

Sector 20 resident welfare association (RWA) president K K Jindal said: “The Panchkula MC has miscalculated our property tax and served a notice to even those who have made the payment. First it fails to maintain its books and then it tries to hide its mistake. Then it has the gall to even ask us for interest.”

The RWA alleges that at the time of buying houses, its members give property tax and all required fee to the MC and Huda (Haryana Urban Development Authority) but never get the multiple promised facilities.

They said the MC had no right to demand property tax for the period before these neglected sectors were transferred to it from HUDA.

Behind this anger is the frustration of being denied basic amenities. Jindal said the laying of sewerage alone was pending for 25 years, while the house buyers had to bear the foul smell of the dumping ground, besides the charges for installing electricity transformers.

People have requested the MC commissioner to wirthdary the tax notice to collect this levy from the date they shifted to the MC from Huda. Jindal said: “We ask for basic facilities that the authorities have denied us for long. They should take our pain seriously.”
